About Sharp Saddles

Clay Sharp: Built on Experience

Clay Sharp builds saddles after many years as a certified farrier. This hands-on background gives him a unique understanding of how saddles fit horses, mules, and draft animals. He knows their needs from the ground up. Every saddle starts with a strong foundation and is built for a long life of hard riding.

A Lifetime on the Ranch

Clay grew up on a working cattle ranch in British Columbia. He spent over 18 years as a certified farrier. This gave him a deep knowledge of saddle horses, draft horses, and mules. Clay has also worked ranches from Canada to Mexico. He understands how climate, terrain, and different riding styles affect a saddle.

He began saddle making by working with a custom saddle tree maker. This experience gave him a full understanding of the saddle's foundation. He has also led clinics and been a speaker on saddles, saddle trees, and saddle fit.

Our Approach to Saddle Making

We build each saddle one at a time. The goal is to make a saddle that you sit "in," not "on." This provides comfort for the rider and the animal.

Our custom saddles are used for many types of riding, including:

  • Working cowboys and buckaroos
  • Pleasure trail riding
  • Trainers and outfitters
  • Endurance riders

We have built custom saddles for riders in almost every state in the USA. Our saddles are also used in Canada, Australia, Great Britain, Mexico, and Italy. We enjoy making a saddle that will last a long time.
